Are you the type of person who likes skiing or snowboarding and having hot chocolate in a cozy cabin? Or the type of person who likes warm sunny weather and hiking or biking? All of these apply to whistler, a town in BC, Canada, and that’s why I think it’s a great place to visit!
Why Travel to Whistler
Whistler is a great place for people seeking adventure, and it is safe. I go up to Whistler often, because we live pretty close and my family and I are skiers and bikers, so I know the place pretty well. First of all, whistler has great terrain, for skiing, biking, hiking and it has beautiful scenery! It is known for it’s skiing and snowboarding and also it’s outstanding restaurants! There is always lots of fun stuff going on, like the ski and snowboard festival or Crankworx, and even the free fire and ice show every Sunday night during the winter. Whether you go to Whistler in the summer, fall, winter or spring, there is always something fun to do!
Here are some of the things I like to do in Whistler
Skiing and snowboarding:
If you ever go to whistler in the winter or early spring you definitely need to go skiing or snowboarding. Whistler is one of the top ski resorts in the world. It has two different mountains; Whistler and Blackcomb. If you’re a beginner skier and want to ski then I’d suggest skiing on Whistler because it has easier runs than Blackcomb. If you’re planning on going up one of the mountains to ski, you’ll need to get a pass which you can find at whistlerblackcomb.com.
Mountain Biking:
You can find all sorts of trails for mountain biking. I like to go to Lost Lake and bike on the trails there. If you’re looking for something easy, just do a loop of the lake then stop at the food truck for lunch. If you want something a little to a lot more challenging you can head into the green, blue or black trails and enjoy the beautiful forest. Another spot to bike, is the bike park on Whistler Mountain. It costs around $38 CAD three runs, which includes rides up the chairlift to a super fun and fast downhill, back to the village.
Hiking:
There are lots of great hikes in Whistler. One of my favourites is the train wreck hike. From function Junction, it’s about a 30 minute walk max to get to the bridge. Once you’re there you can look around at all the broken trains carts and you can even bring spray paint and graffiti on them! If you’re wanting to go up the mountain, there are lots of hikes up there too and I highly suggest you check them out. Hikes are an easy thing to find in Whistler though. With all the greeny forests you’re bound to come across one at some point.
Strolling through the village:
Whistler village is one of my favourite places to go shopping. In the village you can find lots of gift shops, sports stores, clothing stores and great restaurants. There is even a map of the village that you can find at the information center.
Lost Lake:
If you’re looking for a beach to have a picnic at and swim, Lost Lake is the place for you! You can find people hanging out there for dinner or lunch, and swimming in the lake when it gets hot. Lost Lake also has a food truck there everyday, so you don’t even need to worry about bringing food. If you’re at Lost Lake in the winter, consider renting cross country skis or snowshoes. You can rent the gear at The Passive House.
Indoor activities: Even If the weather isn’t great there are still things you can do. Check out rainy day activities in Whistler and hopefully you’ll find something you’d enjoy there.
I spend lots of time in Whistler because I live so close, and I know it’s an awesome place for an adventure or for just hanging out in a cabin. There are so many activities in Whistler, I haven’t gotten to do them all, but I hope to soon.
