How to Stay Sane during Coronavirus Quarantine

Posted on March 20, 2020March 23, 2020 by Jaida Stewart

The world seems to be breaking down right now! The COVID-19 has spread to over 160 countries around the world and has sent a lot of people into panic. Many countries are or were on lockdown for several weeks. Schools are closing down all around the world. Quarantine, Isolation and social distancing can be very hard to do, but thanks to technology we have many different forms of communication. Even though technology can make it easier to quarantine, we all know it isn’t the same as hanging out with people face to face. If you are quarantining or social distancing here are my tips on how to stay sane.

Start a Project

Is there something you have always wanted to do or work on but you’ve never had the time? Well now you have lots of time to pretty much do whatever you want. Some examples are start a puzzle, watch a long movie that you’ve had no time to watch, make a fancy meal, start a journal blog, make a funny iMovie trailer, write a book, learn to solve the Rubics Cube, start a YouTube channel, there are so many options.

Don’t Keep the News on all the time

The news can really put a damper on your mood and if you’re already quarantining you don’t want to get even more nervous about your situation. It is good to know what’s going on especially if you are in quarantine, but don’t watch the news 24/7 or else it becomes an addiction and can be depressing.

Make a to-do list

Write a list of productive things to do, so you don’t end up watching Netflix all day, then when you do sit down for a movie you’ll feel productive and not like you sat around all day. You could organise your house, do a big clean, which really can turn out to be fun and satisfying. Maybe you could find some things that you don’t use anymore that you could sell when you are out of quarantine.

Pick up a skill

Another thing you could do is get creative and pick up a new skill. Maybe you could watch some YouTube tutorials on learning to draw. Or maybe you have an instrument laying around that you have always wanted to learn…now would be a great time to dedicate some hours to learning. Maybe you want to take an online class on indoor photography or photoshop or you could even learn a new language on Duolingo. You could also start a blog and learn how to make money off of it. There are plenty of creative indoor activities that you can learn especially with all the technology we have nowadays.

Read

Going to the library might not be an option for you but that doesn’t mean you have to take reading off the list of things you can do. If you own any books at home might as well try one of those or if have a kindle or E book you could get something online. You can also read from an iPad/tablet or even a phone if you get a reading app. If none of those things are an option get an audiobook or listen to a podcast.

Relax

This is a good time to look at your own health and take a rest. If you are a really busy person and always has stuff to do, it is good for you to take a break and spend some time focusing on your own health. Focus on getting lots of rest, maybe try meditating. You can also do some indoor workout routines like yoga and maybe you’ll get really flexible.

Digital Organization

This is also a great time to organise and go through pictures, voice memos, emails, documents and apps on your devices. It really feels great when you have cleaned everything out. Your device might load faster if it has less stuff on it. You could also organise bookmarks on your computer and make files and documents easier to find.

Facetime/Skype/Zoom

If you really miss talking with your family and friends why not give them a call? You can communicate with them in many different ways and in a way you can talk to them face-to-face through video chats. On some apps you can even do a group chat and get a bunch of friends in there, although that might get a little confusing. We should all be grateful for the incredible technology we have now to stay in touch with loved ones during times like these. And keep in mind everyone is in this together.
